Budget Phone Review: ATIV Odyssey by Samsung

Samsung did not do much with the design of the Odyssey. If you have been familiar with how the Galaxy S looks like, then this Windows Phone 8 unit will be nothing new. You will not see bright colors or tile-inspired elements but this go fine with Samsung customers.

The phone looks smaller than its 5.5-inch counterparts now with only a 4-inch display. If you love the smaller displays, you will appreciate the screen real estate of this phone with enough space so the interface does not appear cramped. Its size reminds you how the phones of old fit well on your hands and in your pockets.

Operating System

Wind the Windows Phone 8 system in place, you basically get the same experience as in other phones. The uniqueness of the WP8 will actually depend on who is using it and not the one who made the phone just like on Android phones.

The AMOLED display has a low resolution of 800 x 480 but you can still enjoy the operating system without any problem. The manufacturer did not clutter the system with preloaded apps so it comes quite neat and clean.

The Samsung ATIV Odyssey coems with a 1.5GHz Snapdragon Qualcom processor that goes hand in hand with 1GB of RAM. It is a low cost phone and you might not find it surprising to see just 8GB of internal storage but you have an option to expand it to 64GB using a microSD.

It comes with a 5MP camera at the back equipped with a flash. It has a 1.2MP front-facing camera that provides average quality for your video calls.

Samsung phones might not be the best hardware for the Windows Phone 8 system but it has managed to provide consumers another choice in this segment. The Samsung Odyssey is budget-friendly, capable, and sized just right.
